The Amplitude alternative with the replay behind the numbers
Sequential gives you the product analytics, session replay and heatmaps you use in Amplitude, and it tells you where your users get stuck and how many people it hit.
Keep your amplitude.init call. Change the key and add serverUrl, and your tracking calls stay as they are.
01
Why teams choose Sequential over Amplitude
- The replay behind each number. Click a funnel drop to see who left, and play their sessions from the moment they left. A recent event in the explorer opens its replay when the recording is ready.
- Ranked cases, counted exactly. Sequential groups the same problem across your users' sessions and counts exactly how many people hit it. Active problems come first. Then come the problems that hit the most people, weighted by the share who gave up.
- Know which recording to open. Evidence ranks your judged sessions by how much they need a look, and "Watch" opens the replay close to where the person struggled.
- Why people left a step. The drop panel shows the cases in the sessions where people left, and how long they stayed on the step before they left.
- Before and after the fix release. Record the release and name the case that it fixes. Sequential then counts the same problem before and after that release. It states what changed.
- Your Amplitude SDK stays. Keep the Amplitude Browser SDK. Your track, setUserId, identify and autocapture calls keep working.

What replaces what
| You use in Amplitude | In Sequential |
|---|---|
| Product Analytics | Funnels, flows, retention and an events explorer count people across sessions, and each drop opens the replays of the people who left. |
| Charts and dashboards | The Board keeps the answers you save and asks each one again when you open it. Saved funnels, retention and session searches are shared with your team. |
| Session Replay | Session replay lists your analytics events, clicks, page changes and JavaScript errors under the replay, in time order. Failed requests show in DevTools, in sync with playback. |
| Heatmaps | Heatmaps store clicks against the element that people clicked, and show clicks, rage clicks and scroll depth for Desktop, Tablet and Mobile. |
| Autocapture | Your Amplitude autocapture keeps working: element clicks and form submits arrive in Sequential. |
| Amplitude Browser SDK | Keep it: replace the API key with your Sequential Amplitude ingest key and add serverUrl, and track, setUserId and identify stay as they are. |
| Amplitude MCP Server | Connect Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or another MCP client, and your agent gets the problem, how many people had it and the replays. |

-
Point amplitude.init at Sequential
Keep the Amplitude Browser SDK (@amplitude/analytics-browser). In the amplitude.init call you already have, replace the API key with your Sequential Amplitude ingest key and add serverUrl. Remove a serverZone option, because serverUrl replaces it, and leave useBatch off.
-
Add the recorder line
For web replay, add the recorder line. The recorder reads Amplitude's session id when the Amplitude SDK is on window.amplitude, so your events show under the replay, in time order.
-
See your first events
The Install step of setup changes from "Waiting for the first event." to "It works" when the first event arrives. Events usually show within about a minute.
amplitude.init('YOUR_AMPLITUDE_INGEST_KEY', { serverUrl: 'https://YOUR_SEQUENTIAL_API_HOST/2/httpapi' });<script src="https://YOUR_SEQUENTIAL_API_HOST/rec/recorder.js/YOUR_REPLAY_INGEST_KEY"></script>Your coding agent can do the install. Copy one prompt into it. It adds Sequential to the analytics you already run, runs your build and tests, and lists every file it changed. You read the diff.

What you get on top
- Connect your coding agent. Ask in plain words over MCP, and your agent gets the problem, how many people had it and the replays. The path /mcp/readonly does not list the tools that change data, with one exception: getting a fix brief marks the case as handed off.
- A fix brief for each case. Anyone on the project can copy the fix brief into a ticket or open a GitHub new-issue page with the brief filled in.
- Release check. Record the release with one call from your deploy, and name the case that it fixes. Your agent can make the call with a token that can write releases. The case then shows the rate before and after.
- Ask. Type one plain sentence, and Sequential lists the sessions that likely show it, strongest first. When it can point to the moment, the row shows it with its time, and a click opens the replay there.
- Your Questions. Start from twelve default questions. Owners and admins can reword, switch off or add questions, up to 24, and Try it runs a draft on a real session from the last 7 days before you save.
- Backend SDK for Node. @usesequential/node sends events from your server and puts them on the same person as the browser events. An error from your server opens a case at its first occurrence.

Questions people ask
Is Sequential a good alternative to Amplitude?
Yes. Sequential is session replay and product analytics in one product. It finds where your users get stuck, counts how many people it hit, and measures the same problem again after the release that fixes it.
Can I keep my Amplitude SDK?
Yes. Keep the Amplitude Browser SDK, replace the API key with your Sequential Amplitude ingest key and add serverUrl. Your track, setUserId, identify and autocapture calls keep working, and one recorder line adds web replay.
Does Sequential have session replay, funnels and heatmaps?
Yes. Sequential has session replay with DevTools, funnels that count people across sessions, flows, retention and heatmaps with click and scroll depth.
How much does Sequential cost?
Sequential is in hosted preview, and the hosted preview takes no payment. Anyone can create an account.
How long does switching from Amplitude take?
You change the key, add serverUrl in amplitude.init and add one recorder line. Events usually show within about a minute, and your coding agent can do the install for you.
Can I see the sessions behind a funnel drop?
Yes. Click a drop to see who left, and play their sessions from the moment they left. The drop panel also shows the cases in those sessions.
