# Sequential

> Sequential records what people do in your product, replays their sessions and uses an AI judge to find the sessions that need your attention.

Every page below is Markdown. Keys and the API URL are placeholders: the real values are in Sequential under Settings → Projects → your project → Setup. Signed in, each install page has a Copy prompt button with them filled in.

## Get started

- [What is Sequential](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/what-is-sequential.md): Sequential records and replays sessions. After each eligible session ends, an AI judge says what the person came to do and where they had trouble.
- [Search or jump to (⌘K)](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/search-or-jump-to.md): Press ⌘K to open a page, a setting, a person or a finding from the keyboard, and to run commands for the page you are on in Sequential.
- [How Sequential works](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/how-it-works.md): Your SDK sends events. Sequential links them to the session replay by session id. About half an hour after a session ends, the AI judge reads them.
- [Quickstart: your first hour with Sequential](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/quickstart.md): Ten steps take you from a new account to your first judged sessions. Each step says how to check that it is done and links to more detail.
- [Connect claude.ai to Sequential (MCP)](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/connect-claude-ai.md): Add Sequential to claude.ai as a custom connector. Sign in, choose one project and what claude.ai can read, then find and end the connection under Agents.
- [Connect Claude Code to Sequential (MCP)](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/connect-claude-code.md): Connect Claude Code to Sequential over MCP with a project access token: create the token, run one claude mcp add command, then start a new session.
- [Let your agent set up a trial](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/agent-trial.md): A coding agent can create a Sequential trial for you with one call, before you have an account. You claim it from an email to keep it.

## Set up

- [Install Sequential](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/install.md): Install Sequential's SDK for analytics and session replay, or point PostHog, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Pendo or Smartlook at Sequential with a config change.
- [Sequential SDK (sequential.js)](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/sequential.md): One script tag for analytics and session replay, served from Sequential's CDN, with one key. The recommended install for a site with no analytics SDK yet.
- [Send PostHog (web) data to Sequential](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/posthog.md): Keep posthog-js and point it at Sequential: your Sequential PostHog ingest key as the project token, and Sequential's API URL as `api_host`.
- [Send Mixpanel data to Sequential](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/mixpanel.md): Keep the Mixpanel JavaScript SDK and point it at Sequential: your Sequential Mixpanel ingest key as the project token, plus `api_host`.
- [Send Amplitude data to Sequential](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/amplitude.md): Keep the Amplitude Browser SDK (`@amplitude/analytics-browser`) and point it at Sequential: your Amplitude ingest key as the API key, plus `serverUrl`.
- [Send Pendo data to Sequential](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/pendo.md): For sites that run Pendo: add `dataHost` so Pendo's agent sends its data to Sequential, and register your Pendo API key with your project.
- [Moving from Smartlook](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/smartlook.md): Move from Smartlook: change where the script loads from, and the key. Your tracking calls keep working, and session replay continues on Sequential.
- [Add session replay to a website](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/session-replay.md): One script tag adds session replay to a website. With an analytics SDK on the page, its events show on the replay timeline. Without one, it works alone.
- [Mobile apps (iOS, Android, React Native)](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/mobile.md): Use PostHog's open-source mobile SDK and point it at Sequential with your PostHog ingest key and API URL. Events and session replay both arrive.
- [Check that your install works](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/verify.md): How to tell that events arrive in Sequential after you install an SDK, and what each failure looks like, for every SDK that Sequential accepts.
- [Identify your users](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/identify-users.md): Identify tells Sequential who a visitor is. Pass one value per person, every time, so they count as one user on each browser and device you identify.
- [Send custom events](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/custom-events.md): Custom events name the moments that matter, such as a finished checkout. They become filters, funnel steps and flow steps, and they help the AI judge.

## Analyse behaviour

- [Events and event classes](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/events.md): An event is one thing that happened in a session. Sequential gives each event one of nine classes, so a click means the same thing from every SDK.
- [Users and identity](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/users-and-identity.md): Sequential files every event under one user id. It is an anonymous id until your app identifies the visitor, then exactly the value your app passes.
- [Sessions and session ids](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/sessions.md): A session is one visit: all events with the same session id, plus the recording filed under that id. Your SDK sets the id. Replays, Watch and Ask need it.
- [Explore events on the Events page](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/events-explorer.md): The Events page charts, filters, breaks down and lists the raw events your project receives. Use it to see who did what, where and how often.
- [Funnels: where users drop off](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/funnels.md): Count how many users complete a series of steps in order, see where the others leave, and open the exact users who left.
- [Flows: the paths users take](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/flows.md): Flows shows, as a Sankey diagram, the order in which users move between events you choose: what they do after a step, before it, and where they stop.
- [Retention: do users come back?](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/retention.md): Retention shows how many people who did a start event came back to do a return event on day N. It shows one cohort for each day or week.
- [Users and accounts](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/users-and-accounts.md): Find a person by the id your app sends, see their sessions and open the replays. See the accounts that your people belong to.
- [Filters, date ranges and saved views](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/filters-and-saved-views.md): The date bar and the filter builder choose which events a page uses. Saved filters, funnels, flows and retention questions let you ask them again.

## Session replay

- [Find and replay sessions](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/sessions-and-replay.md): The Sessions page lists sessions and shows which had problems. The session replay shows a session's events, frustration signals and errors on one timeline.
- [DevTools in session replays](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/devtools.md): DevTools shows the console, network requests and page performance behind a session replay. Use it to find broken sessions in the Sessions list.
- [Session replay recording settings](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/recording-settings.md): The Session replay tab controls what a project records. This page gives each control's purpose, default, and what applies it: server, recorder or nothing.

## AI judging

- [AI judgments of sessions](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/judgments.md): Sequential asks every eligible session your project's questions and stores the answers as probabilities. A stored judgment does not change.
- [Reading an AI verdict](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/reading-verdicts.md): A verdict is the AI judge's forecast of how likely each answer is. Learn what it means, why "unclear" is not a failure, and how to check it in the replay.
- [Watch: sessions worth your time](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/watch.md): Watch ranks judged sessions by how much they need a look. It gives a one-line reason for each and opens the replay at the most useful moment.
- [Findings and fixes](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/findings.md): A finding is a problem that Sequential counts across sessions. Hand it off, link the fix and mark the release. Then Sequential measures the rate again.
- [Session insights](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/session-insights.md): The replay player's Insights tab judges one session on demand: what the user came to do, how it ended and where they struggled. It uses a daily allowance.
- [Ask: find sessions by describing them](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/ask.md): Describe a behaviour in one sentence and Ask finds the sessions whose events show it. It ranks the results and shows how likely each one matches.
- [Customise the AI judge's rubric](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/rubric.md): The rubric is the questions the AI judge asks about each session. Add your own, try them on a real session, then save them for sessions judged after that.
- [Feedback and calibration of the AI judge](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/feedback-and-calibration.md): Mark the AI judge's answers right or wrong with 👍/👎. See where your team disagrees, and whether the stated probability is correct on your sessions.

## Privacy & security

- [Privacy at a glance](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/privacy-overview.md): What Sequential collects, where it sends it, who can see it and what it removes automatically. It starts with what Sequential does not guarantee yet.
- [What Sequential keeps from page URLs](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/url-policy.md): Before it stores an event, Sequential cleans the page URL and referrer. It keeps the host, path and attribution parameters, and redacts other query values.
- [Session replay masking and redaction](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/masking-and-redaction.md): Masking decides what a session replay shows. Redaction removes known secrets from DevTools data. What each one does, and what neither one catches.
- [AI and third parties](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/ai-and-third-parties.md): Sequential's AI features send session digests to TypeSafe. This page lists what TypeSafe receives, what your pages load, and what you control.
- [Data retention and deletion](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/retention-and-deletion.md): How long Sequential keeps each kind of data, what archiving and deleting do to it, and what is not possible yet: per-person deletion and export.

## Account & team

- [Organisations, projects and keys](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/organisations-and-projects.md): An organisation is your company or team. A project is one app or site inside it, with its own ingest keys, data and settings.
- [Sign-up and invitations](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/sign-up-and-invitations.md): How people create a Sequential account and join your organisation. Invitations work in every sign-up mode, so they are the reliable way to add a colleague.
- [Roles and permissions](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/roles-and-permissions.md): Everyone in an organisation has one of four fixed roles: Owner, Admin, Member or Viewer. A role applies to every project in the organisation.
- [Two-factor authentication and account security](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/two-factor-and-security.md): Use an authenticator app, require two-factor authentication in your organisation, sign out devices and reset your password for your Sequential account.
- [Usage and session limits](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/usage-and-limits.md): See how many sessions your organisation used this month, what happens when it reaches its session limit, and how to get more sessions.
- [Audit log of organisation changes](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/audit-log.md): The audit log records who changed what in your organisation, when, and from which address. Owners and admins read it under Settings → Audit log.
- [Send feedback to the Sequential team](https://www.usesequential.com/docs/send-feedback.md): Send a bug, a wish or an idea to the Sequential team from the app. See what it attaches, and follow its status and the replies.
