Search or jump to (⌘K)

Press ⌘K to open a page, a setting, a person or a finding from the keyboard, and to run commands for the page you are on in Sequential.

On this page

What it is for

Use Search or jump to to open a page, a setting, a project, a saved view, a person or a finding without the rail. It also runs commands for the page that you are on.

Open it

  • Press ⌘K on a Mac or Ctrl K on other computers. The keys also work in a text field and in the replay player.
  • Or click Search… at the top of the rail. When the window is narrow, the top bar has a Search button.
  • To close it, press Esc, or press ⌘K or Ctrl K again.

What it shows

With nothing typed, the list shows these groups, in this order:

  1. Recent: what you opened from the search before.
  2. On this page: commands for the page that you are on. See Commands for this page.
  3. Go to: the pages of the rail. Watch is the Sessions page: "sessions" and "latest" find it too. Agents shows only for owners and admins. Heatmaps shows only when your role can watch recordings.
  4. Actions: New funnel, and a change of the colour theme.
  5. Projects: only when you have two or more projects.
  6. Help: Keyboard shortcuts, Send feedback and Documentation. See Send feedback to the Sequential team.

From 15 October 2026, the first row is always a place to go, never an action. So Enter right after ⌘K does not start a new funnel.

When you type, the search finds these too:

  • Open by id: a pasted id. This group is always first. See Open by id.
  • Settings: the settings pages, such as "Settings › Profile", and the sections of the current project, such as "Shop › Session replay". You see only the settings that your role can open.
  • Saved: the project's saved filters, funnels, flows and retention views, by name. The search reads the list again each time you open it.
  • People and Findings: after the other groups.
  • Docs: the pages and sections of this documentation. See Find a docs page.

Help is always last.

When you type, each group shows up to 8 rows. Findings and Docs show up to 5.

Find a person

Type at least 2 characters. The search starts 200 milliseconds after you stop typing.

It finds a person by:

  • the name or the email from identify();
  • the start of the id, for a person who is identified;
  • the full id, for any person;
  • the name of the person's newest account.

The search ignores upper and lower case, but not accents. For example, "ada" does not find "Adámek". It finds only the people seen in the last 7 days.

Each row shows the person's name, else the email, else the id. Next to it are the account and when the person was last seen. If the email or the account matched, the row shows it, with the match in bold.

Press Enter to open the person's page.

The preview

On a person row, press Tab to move into the preview. The preview shows:

  • the name, and the email when there is a name;
  • Account: a link to the account's page, or "No account";
  • Last seen, or "Not known";
  • Open person page.

When you move into the preview, Sequential also reads more about the person. It reads them only then, never when you only move to a row. While it reads, the preview says "Loading details…". Then it shows:

  • the findings that the person hit in the last 7 days, for example "3 findings in the last 7 days.", or "No findings in the last 7 days." Sequential counts up to 20 findings. With 20 or more, the preview says "At least 20 findings in the last 7 days." If Sequential cannot read the findings, it says "Findings are unavailable right now.";
  • Latest sessions: up to 2 of the person's sessions in the last 7 days, the newest first. Each one shows when it started, and its length when Sequential knows it. Click one to open its replay. With none, the preview says "No sessions in the last 7 days."

If a part cannot be read, the preview says "Some details could not be loaded." with Retry. The other part still shows. Sequential keeps what it read while the palette is open, and forgets it when the palette closes.

Press Shift Tab or Esc to go back to the search. When the window is narrower than 760 pixels, the preview is under the list.

With nothing typed, or when no person matches, the preview column says "Search for a person by name or email. Their details show here." It shows this only when you can search for people. When the list has people, it says "Move to a person to see their details here."

On a phone, the palette fills the screen, and the preview is closed under the list. To open it, tap Preview: <name>, or press Tab. Opening it also reads the findings and the latest sessions. On a touch screen, the preview shows the first person in the list.

The search sends your text in the request body, never in an address. A link to a person carries only the person's id.

Find a finding

Type at least 2 characters. The search finds a finding by its title. It ignores upper and lower case. It finds dismissed findings too.

Each row shows the finding's number, such as F-12, its title and its page, for example "in /checkout". A dismissed finding also shows "Dismissed". Press Enter to open the finding.

If finding detection is off for the project, the group says "Finding detection is off for this project."

Find a docs page

Type at least 2 characters. The search finds the pages and the sections of this documentation, in your browser. It ignores upper and lower case, and accents. Each word that you type must be there. The last word can be the start of a word.

Each row shows the title of the page or the section, and where it is, for example "AI judging › Watch". Press Enter to open it in the same tab.

Sequential reads the list of docs the first time that you open the palette. If it cannot read it, the group says "Docs search failed. Retry". Press Enter on the row, or click Retry. If nothing in the palette matches, it says "No matches for “…”."

When a search cannot answer

The group says What it means
"Searching people…" The search takes longer than 150 milliseconds.
"People search failed. Retry" The search did not answer. Press Enter on the row, or click Retry.
"Too many searches. Wait a moment." You made more than 300 searches and other analytics reads in one minute in this project.
"No people match “ada”" The search found nobody.

The Findings group uses the same messages, with "findings" in place of "people". When a search fails, the group never shows as empty.

Open by id

Paste one id, with no spaces. Sequential reads the id in your browser and offers these rows:

You paste The rows
F-12, f-12, f12 or #12 Open finding F-12
A session id that starts with s- or sess- Open session … (the replay) and Events in session … (Events)
A user id that starts with u- or user-, or an email address Open user … (the person's page)
A UUID All three session and user rows, because a UUID can be either

Sequential does not check that the finding, the session or the user exists before it shows the row.

Commands for this page

On some pages, the palette shows the group On this page, and the chip "On <page>" next to the search field, for example "On Funnels". A command runs after the palette closes. It does the same as the page's own control.

  • Last 7 days, Last 30 days, Last 90 days: set the date range. The range that is set now is not in the list. The row also shows the range that is set now, for example "Now: last 30 days".
  • Save as view: opens the page's own Save dialog. Viewers do not see it.
  • While the palette is open, ⌘S or Ctrl S runs Save as view.
Page Commands
Events Apply changes (when you changed the dates or the filters), the date ranges, Save as view, Break down by device (when the breakdown is not by device)
Sessions Apply changes (as on Events), the date ranges, Save as view, Switch to Latest, Switch to Watch, Switch to Ask
Users Apply changes (as on Events), the date ranges, Save as view
Accounts Apply changes (when you changed a filter), the date ranges
Heatmaps The date ranges, and Show desktop, Show tablet or Show mobile when a page is open
Funnels Run funnel (with 2 or more steps), the date ranges, Save as view
Flows Run flows, the date ranges, Save as view
Retention Analyse retention, the date ranges, Save as view, Group by week or Group by day

On Flows and Retention, a new date range clears the result. Run the analysis again to see it. On Funnels, from 15 October 2026, a new date range runs the funnel again when there is a result.

Actions

  • New funnel opens Funnels with an empty funnel. If Funnels is already open, it removes the steps that you did not save, and it does not ask first.
  • Switch to light theme, Switch to dark theme and Use the system theme: the palette shows the two that you do not use now.

Recent

Recent shows up to 5 of the rows that you opened from the search, newest first.

  • The list is for you, in this project, in this browser. Another browser has its own list.
  • For a person, Sequential keeps only the id. It reads the name again when it shows the row.
  • For a finding, it keeps "Open finding F-12", never the title.
  • For a docs page, it keeps its link, its title and where it is.
  • It does not keep page commands or theme changes.
  • To empty the list, choose Clear recent. When you sign out, Sequential removes the lists in this browser.

Limits

  • People that were last seen more than 7 days ago are not found.
  • The search does not ignore accents.
  • Findings are found by their title only.
  • The preview shows at most 2 sessions and a count of findings, both from the last 7 days. Open the person's page for the rest.
  • Accounts and Heatmaps have no Save as view command.
  • Docs shows up to 5 pages or sections. For more, use the search on the docs home.
  • Recent stays in one browser. It does not move to your other computers.
