Simple view

A shorter rail and a Dashboard of three cards, for people who watch sessions but do not build analyses. Turn it on or off in the account menu. It changes no permission.

What it is for

Simple view is for people who watch sessions and read results, but do not build funnels or filters. It hides the analysis tools from the rail. It replaces the Dashboard tiles with three cards that answer three questions: where people leave, which sessions to watch, and where people click.

Who gets it

  • A viewer starts in Simple view at the first sign-in in a browser. A note then shows in the bottom corner of the screen: "You are in Simple view. Show everything any time from the rail." Click Got it to close it. The note shows until you close it, or until you turn Simple view off.
  • An owner, an admin or a member starts with the full rail.
  • This default applies once in each browser. After that, Sequential keeps the choice that the browser has. A later change of your role does not change it.
  • While Sequential staff view the app as another person, the default does not apply.

Anyone can turn Simple view on or off. See Roles and permissions.

Turn it on or off

  1. Click your account row at the bottom of the rail. The account menu opens.
  2. Click Simple view. The switch shows On or Off. Under it, the menu says "Show only Dashboard, Sessions, Funnels and Heatmaps. Other pages stay open by link."

The change applies at once. There is no Save button.

To leave Simple view from the rail, click Show everything. It is on the line Simple view · Show everything, near the bottom of the rail, above the account row.

Sequential keeps the choice in this browser. Another browser or another computer has its own choice. If the browser blocks site storage, the switch still works on the page, but the browser does not keep the choice.

What the rail shows

In Simple view the rail shows, in this order:

  1. Dashboard
  2. Sessions
  3. Funnels
  4. Heatmaps

Heatmaps shows only for a role that can watch replays. Today every role can.

The rail does not show Agents, Findings, Explore, Invite people, Get more sessions or Send feedback. To see them, click Show everything, or turn off Simple view in the account menu.

On a phone, the menu shows the same places and the same Show everything line.

The Dashboard in Simple view

The Dashboard shows three cards in place of the tiles and the saved items. Under the title, it says "Your last 7 days, at a glance" and Last 7 days. All three cards use the last 7 days, in UTC, up to today. You cannot change the dates on this page.

Each card loads on its own. If one card fails, it shows an error and Try again. The other cards still show.

Where people leave

This card runs the funnel that your team chose for Simple view. See Choose the funnel, below.

  • Under the title, the card shows the name of the funnel.
  • It shows the share of people that finished, such as "36.5 % finish all 4 steps", and a line such as "292 of 800 people".
  • It shows one bar for each step, with the number of people.
  • It shows the drop where the most people left, such as "Most people leave at Step 2 → 3 · Pricing → Sign-up · 240 people". If two drops are equal, it shows the earlier one.
  • See why people left opens Funnels. Funnels runs the same funnel on the same dates, and opens the panel of that drop. See See who dropped.

If no one did step 1, the card says "No one started this funnel in these dates."

Sessions worth watching

This card shows the top 5 sessions from Watch, under "Top 5 from Watch". Each row shows the person, the one-line verdict and the length of the session.

  • When you can play the recording now, the row has Replay.
  • When you cannot, the row shows why, such as Processing with the time when it is ready.
  • All sessions opens Sessions.

If no session has a verdict, the card says "No sessions in these dates." If AI judging is off for the project, the card says that judging is off, as the Sessions page does. See Watch: sessions worth your time.

Where people click

This card shows the page with the most views in the last 7 days. It shows the address of the page and its number of clicks, such as "1,204 clicks". Open heatmap opens Heatmaps on that page and those dates.

  • If heatmaps are off, the card says "Heatmaps are off for this project. An owner or admin turns them on."
  • If no page has clicks, the card says "No clicks in these dates."
  • Like Heatmaps in the rail, this card shows only for a role that can watch replays.

Choose the funnel

The card Where people leave shows one saved funnel. The project has one such funnel, for everyone in the project.

  1. Open Funnels.
  2. Under Saved funnels:, find the funnel.
  3. Click the pin button next to its name. Its tooltip says Show on Simple view.

The funnel then has the tag On Simple view. On a narrow screen, the tag is only the pin icon. A message says "Funnel “Checkout” is on Simple view", with the name of your funnel.

  • Only owners, admins and members can pin a funnel. Everyone in the project sees the tag.
  • If another funnel is on Simple view, Sequential asks first. For example: Show “Checkout” on Simple view? "It replaces “Sign-up”. Simple view shows one funnel per project, for everyone in it." Press Show on Simple view to replace it, or Cancel.
  • There is no button to remove the pin. To change the funnel, pin another one.
  • A pin does not change the funnel. Its steps, its version and "updated by" stay the same.
  • If a teammate pins another funnel at the same moment, their pin stays. Sequential says "Another funnel was pinned at the same time. Try again." Press Try again. Sequential then asks again before it replaces their funnel.
  • If a pin fails, the tag stays where it was.

Each pin makes an entry in the audit log: Funnel shown on Simple view. See Audit log of organisation changes.

When no funnel is chosen

  • A viewer sees "No funnel chosen yet. Ask a teammate to pin a saved funnel."
  • An owner, an admin or a member sees "Pin a saved funnel to show it here." and Open Funnels.

It changes no permission

Simple view changes only the rail and the Dashboard. It does not hide any data from you, and it does not give you more access.

Why the funnel card and the drop panel show different numbers

The card Where people leave counts people from events. Sessions to watch in the drop panel counts only sessions that have a recording. So the panel can show fewer sessions than people who left. See Why funnel and replay counts differ.
